How To Clean: Lambswool Duster

Every household cleaning kit should include a duster. We use a lambswool duster that we’ve had for many many years. It’s great for cleaning as it’s reusable, the fibres are natural and it collects up the dust really easily. That being said, it does require a little care.
After each use, give it a shake outside or over a bin to remove any dust (any larger clumps can easily be removed by hand) and give it a little shake to fluff up before use.
Occasionally, it will need to be washed. I do this once it starts to look a bit tired and grubby, several times a year.
You will need:
Delicate laundry detergent
Delicate fabric conditioner
Old comb

BEFORE

To start, remove as much dust from the duster as possible.

Fill a basin with lukewarm water and add half a capful of laundry detergent and agitate until bubbly. I used Wilton London Cedarwood detergent. It’s eco friendly and smells wonderful. Put the duster in the water running it back and forth in the water a few times. Then lightly run the comb through the duster under water to wash fully and remove any trapped particles.
Once clean, drain the basin and rinse the duster under clean running water. Then half fill the basin again with lukewarm water and add a quarter capful of fabric conditioner and leave the duster in for 5 minutes. I used the matching softener from Wilton London.

Wring out the duster and allow to dry. Once dry, run the comb through it. Shake to fluff and you’re ready to reuse it!
